Expanding empires, fallen dictators, wars, starvation, technical advances, crises, bankruptcy, and all this only because of the impact money keeps on having on people's life for centuries, even millennia. Can something be done without money and the science of handling it, Economics? I suppose not. Why so determined in choosing Business-Management? Well, "Money is like a sixth sense without which you cannot make a complete use of the other five." says Somerset Maugham in his "Of Human Bondage", and I totally agree with it. A complex theoretical approach of strategic management becomes possible only by studying abroad at a top British University with highly experienced staff. In the era of global communication and rapid information, the capacity of clearly understanding the market with its clients becomes essential. It is no longer possible for managers to focus exclusively on the bottom line. Some businessmen now have more power and influence than the countries they operate in. I am deeply aware that there are no easy answers in management but I am quite determined to develop my critical reflexivity which, in my opinion, is one of the essential skills a manager can possess. I consider maintaining effectiveness in a challenging environment absolutely necessary in my future career. Keen to do well my job, daring and able to deal with stress and pressure, I eager to run up my sleeves and get down to work. As a proverb says "A tree with deep roots never fears a storm." And I feel like it. Having a look at my childhood I see my business starting point in accompanying my father in most of his business activities. Since an early age he introduced me in this fascinating and risky world of money. My father's clothes manufacturing business in association with Greek and American partners offered me the opportunities to get in touch with what formulating policy, what organising, controlling, and directing the firm's resources mean. My avid interest in old coins, banknotes and history, and my father's passion for numismatics and antiquities, determined him to start a second business, where I grew under his guidance. This is how I learnt to make deals, to negotiate, to set prices, to persuade, to identify real values and be fair but at the same time witty. Organizing basketball tournaments, interactive quizzes on different topics like history, geography, art, Economics, creating a magazine for general knowledge contests, all this helped me to have a clear picture of what a successful project manager means. It is of great interest for me to explore economic applications in-depth, to examine how business strategy varies across business types, cultures and countries, and this because of my keen sense of curiosity regarding the intricate evolution of Economics. I want to have a sound knowledge of key management subjects such as organizational behaviour, business strategy in national and international business environment. Practicing basketball for 6 years and taekwondo for about two years helped me to interact with people, to strengthen my motivation in reaching a high level of discipline and fair-play, in coping with failure and success. My European Computer Driving Licence, my web design and programming skills will surely be helpful in the field chosen. I am a reliable, organized, motivated student who enjoys experiencing new situations and I am looking forward to the experience and challenge of the British university life. I am convinced that a Business Management Degree completed with a Business Management Master's Degree will endow me with outstanding academic skills making me highly prized by employers in a variety of industries and professions.
